I thought to give an in depth review of my Ruby Boudoir Bra by Killstar, not only because Killstar lingerie is gorgeous, but mostly to help you pick a size as they do not follow any standard bra size charts, but go from XS to XXL (with a few of the newest styles going up to 4XL). I wish I had more info about sizing before purchasing, so I hope this will help someone!
The Ruby Boudoir Bra has a large black floral lace band, gorgeous red velvet cups trimmed in black lace; harness-like straps on the cups that frame the breasts beautifully, and a vertical detachable strap that goes up to the lace choker. In between the cups there’s a satin ribbon just above a small metal cross, adorned with tiny black crystals. Both the cross and the ribbon are securely sewn on, not glued to the fabric; and that’s a detail I appreciate.
The cups have a metal underwire and a light padding that creates a pocket. The padding doesn’t go up to the lace.
Overall the support is good and I like the shape it gives me. This design is just gorgeous and I love wearing tops that show the harness straps underneath; they add a very nice detail to any top.
My Boudoir Bra is the Ruby version, but it’s also available in total black and it’s called Onyx.
You can also separately buy the bottom part of both sets: Scarlet Boudoir Panty in red, and Obsidian Boudoir Panty in black.
When buying any kind of garment online it can be hard to pick the right size, and when you can’t pick a cup size for a bra, it’s basically impossible to tell if it will fit correctly or not.
I’ve had the chance to try both sizes L and XL and I’ve found that while the underbust band goes up in size, the cups tend to remain quite the same.
For reference my measurements are: underbust 80cm (31,5″), bust 95cm (37,5″).
In the photos you can see how the size L fits me, with the band closed on the tightest setting.
I wear a size M in Killstar tops and dresses, and a size M Ruby Boudoir Bra would have had the perfect band lenght for me, but I’m sure the cup would have been too small, because the L covers me just enough. It’s not the best fit, but it’s comfortable and looks beautiful to me.
Band lenght: 72cm on the tightest setting, to 75cm on the largest + plenty of stretch.
Band height: 10cm. The large lace band closes with 6 hooks on the back, adjustable on 3 settings.
Underwire diameter: 13cm
Across cup: 21cm
Choker lenght: 31cm. Closed by 2 buttons. Stretchy, not adjustable. Only the harness strap is adjustable in lenght.
The straps on the shoulders are adjustable as well as the strap holding the choker, that can be detached from the bra but not used as a choker itself because the top part of the vertical strap is sewn on.
Even if it’s stretcy, I’ve found the choker to be very tight and uncomfortable to wear. I’m glad it’s detachable but I will try and find a way to add a bit more lenght to it so I can wear the complete bra as I like the look of it.
